Getting there...

Well, dear reader, yet again I find myself with aching muscles from another afternoon knackering myself in the garden. Actually, while I think of it, 'knackering myself' is a lovely expression. Feel free to use it. The looonnnggg garden bed alongside our living room has been completely turned over and had a gazillion shovel-loads of organic mix soil added to it. This area held some lavenders, thrown in quickly before BabyG's birthday last January so it didn't look like we lived in the Mallee (although it did look like that...), which I removed last month and put up the side of the garage alongside the path. This is what it looked like before the walls were constructed:

This afternoon I planted out 14 flower carpet roses that I bought two weeks ago, hoping to put them in last weekend but I was rained out. Tomorrow I will lay down layers of wet newspaper and then cover the paper with the mulch in the bottom of the photo above because weeding that garden bed with the rose thorns will be akin to getting a brazilian. I also almost planted the Japanese maple that I bought for my parents from the tree auction. I say 'almost' because I dug a whole bigger than Japan through layers upon layers of builder's clay, planted the tree, then ran out of soil to backfill it. Will buy some more tomorrow as well as some garden bed dividers.

And now I'm taking my weary self to bed. Buona notte.

P.S. I haven't reneged on giving my parents the Japanese Maple. They don't need it. They've bought an apartment by the seaside! Congratulations Mum and Dad, I'm sure you'll be very happy. And I'll be very happy offloading my cherubs onto you for beach adventures! xxx
